Australian Solar Timbers Contributes to The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Schools Program
December 2012
The recent collaboration between Aldavilla Public School in West Kempsey and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Schools Program was given an extra boost with the donation of feature grade decking to compliment the cleverly converted railway carriage kitchen garden preparation area and mulch for the garden.
The kitchen garden program will involve 184 students from Year 2 – 6 on a fortnightly timetable with gardening sessions one week and kitchen sessions in the alternate week.
The aim of the project is to introduce all students to the pleasures of preparing cooking and eating a variety of foods they have grown and harvested themselves.
Australian Solar Timbers CEO Dr Douglas Head is thrilled to be involved with such a wonderful project…'the timber industry teaches you about long term thinking and this project is an investment in a generation who will be re-engaged with where food comes from and how to prepare it. A respect and understanding of these things is fundamental to life. AST is proud to be involved with such a project'.
