Australian Solar Timbers Gets It's White Ribbon On
December 2012
A group of men at AST have joined the campaign to defeat violence against women in the lead up to this year's White Ribbon Day.
Youth worker with Kempsey Family Support Service, Ian Robinson, co-ordinated the local effort to add to the 53,000 signatories of the White Ribbon Day Oath.
'Kempsey has got some of the highest occurrences of domestic violence in the (Mid North Coast police) local area command' he said 'I'm trying to get businesses to encourage any men that work there to swear the oath in the workplace, by signing a slip or going online'
The Oath is:
"I swear never to commit, excuse, or remain silent about violence to women. This is my oath"
Office co-ordinator Lexie Hudson rallied the men during Mr Robinson's visit to The Australian Solar Timbers factory at Yarravel.
AST general manager Allan Hutley said the company was proud to be involved in the White Ribbon Campaign.
'We think, in small communities particularly, it's important men treat women as equals, especially in times when industry and businesses are doing it tough'.
